History

Transformation Africa
The Global Day of Prayer movement began as a vision God gave South African lay leader Graham Power. In February 2005, Power told Calgary ministry leaders of the incredible barriers God removed while bringing this vision to reality in Capetown in 2001.

In 2003, approximately 23 million Christians in 28 African countries united in prayer. By 2004, Christians in all 56 countries on the African continent prayed together. The grass-roots phenomenon spread from its gravitational center in South Africa to touch the world. By 2010, the movement is expected to unite 500 million people as they pray together.

Developing Nations
The Global Day of Prayer movement flowed from developing nation to developing nation before touching down in North America in 2005. Christians in Calgary, Dallas, and other centers in Canada and USA came together to pray in unity. In 2006, other North American cities joined like Toronto and Boston.

Results
There are many, many reports of answered prayer that have come from countries around the world. A secondary benefit is the unity God brings when various groups simply talk with one another.

When local Catholics, Protestants, Charismatics, Evangelicals and Mainline Churches talk to each other while planning a Global Day of Prayer, they focus on common interests rather than differences. They discover that together in unity, they can accomplish great things for God!
